mama's on the indernep

heard this morning:

C: mama is on the internet looking at pictures of our friends.
E: mama's on the indernep.
C: internet--with a T.
E: inder-NET!

(on the changing table, looking at flatty [stuffed cat who's kinda, well, flat])
E: flatty's tag says "roast BEEF!"

in other conversation this AM, i mentioned to E that we might go to the museum. i was thinking about going to the UI natural history museum's bird hall. we've been to see the mammals, but not the feathered friends. since we've been seeing a lot of backyard birds lately, it seemed appropos. E assumed that i meant the iowa childrens' museum and said, "go to the shop and put muffins in the cart." and with that, she seemed pretty intent on checking out the kid-sized grocery store--her favorite "exhibit" (i think every childrens' museum has to have one). in the photo above, she's checking to make sure she has everything in her purse before we head out. sunglasses--check! shiny pink beads--check! plastic keys--check!

putting some produce in a bowl from the bakery area.
there's a new exhibit based on the UNICEF book series children just like me, which features kids from countries and cultures around the world and discusses where they live, what they eat, what they wear, what they see around them everyday, etc. here's E in the maasai (eastern africa) section trying on some beads.
another highlight is the pizzaria. peppers are her favorite pretend topping.
sprinkling on some parmesan cheese while the pizza is baking might seem like a risky move, but eleanor is undaunted!

  1. this may seem strange since you can't see her face, but that first photo of E checking her purse is my favorite. I just love it.

  2. I love the purse-checking photo, too. As I read about it and looked at it, I thought, "Oh, how fun to have a daughter!"
