weekend o' the arts

waffle FAIL!
(i might be a little preoccupied with FAIL blog these days...)
cuteness WIN!
E and H being a little goofy.

i'm shocked at how few photos i have of this weekend, hence the lackluster selection here (though i think the second one is a keeper). it was the annual iowa arts festival and betsy, pete and the kids were in town. jean also stayed here, allowing us to enjoy a few evenings out while the little ones were fed and put to bed by grammie. she brought over her new waffle iron for saturday morning breakfast, but someone forgot about that last little bit of batter...
after the rain cleared out later that day, we scoped out the artists' booths, live music and food vendors downtown. doing my best to promote the creation of beautiful things, i bought a couple of ceramic pieces from this woman, and a print from this one. this morning, we picked up some bagels from the baker down the street (we also had local bagels with betsy and pete during last year's arts fest, i just rediscovered) and went out to bill and kathie's for breakfast and some hanging out.
i always feel like weekends fly by when i'm in the middle of teaching, but summer weekends are also somehow just as fleeting. this was a really good one...

  1. holy crap...that post from last year's arts fest is funny. How do the kids change so much in a year?

  3. I miss the arts fest--- seeing greg brown play for free in the middlle of an intersection, food on a stick, sweating and more sweating, frosty fruity beverages.

  4. sarah, i tried to link to the specific print but it wasn't on its own page. it's called "stella by day"--it's based on a photo of the artist's grandmother who was also an artist, an animal lover and a bit of a bohemian. in the print, she's looking at her pet crow who's perched on her shoulder.
