this weekend brought rob's cousin katie's last college softball tournament in iowa city and a bunch of pilger relatives headed to town to cheer on the ball state cardinals. joyce stayed with us on saturday and jan and sam came to hang out that afternoon. rob had the genius idea of busting out the treasure trove of legos jean had brought him for his birthday. sam made a souped-up police boat with two steering wheels and a lot of control panels. rob put together the space shuttle--he remembered just the pieces to look for after all these years. it was kinda eerie. i built the "window wheel mobile" pictured below. the driver is a little lego man with a magic marker face. i don't know who had the most fun...

here's sam pointing out that he just beat will's high score on whitewater.
in crafting news, my knitting class started last night! i would have posted a photo of my progress, but mere casting-on stitches are none too impressive. i'll wait till i get a hang of the knit stitch before i do any sharing. i think i could probably make faster progress if i just had a few one-on-one hours with a patient and experienced knitter, but the group aspect of the class is fun. it's nice to be able to share frustrations ("is it supposed to look like this? i don't think it's supposed to look like this.") with fellow beginners. my first project is a green wool scarf--i hope it'll be done by the time extra chilly weather rolls around again!
i didn't know you were knitting as well! wonderful! are you taking classes at the knitting shoppe? that store is dangerously close to home for you - once you get hooked, it's hard to stop! the next project i do will be for me! i've not done anything for ME yet! i'm going to email you several knitting resources i use online!
