What is it that you hope to be doing? What would you like your work to be? What about your immediate family? Your extended family? What about the state of the World? Do you have any long-term goals you want to accomplish?
This time we can speculate instead of recalling. It will be a different mental exercise but an interesting one i'm sure...
Interesting! A different type of mental stretch, indeed. Are we being idealistic or realistic?
ReplyDeletethis will be a complete stretch for me! i have a hard time thinking about next week let alone next decade. perhaps i'll try to pretend like i'm back in mildred bidlack's fifth grade class and she's reading aloud some futuristic tale... only it's about me! i don't think she actually read anything futuristic, as a matter of fact. however, she did read about some boy (why am i thinking paul revere??) who poured molten metal on his hand and as it healed, the fingers webbed. was anyone else scarred by that story like i was?
ReplyDeleteI remember that story - it WAS Paul Revere - and he was a silversmith/pewtersmith. Yeah, that was a fantastic yarn! Her house is about 100' from ours, except I'm pretty sure she doesn't live there anymore.
ReplyDeleteAfraid I won't be joining in on this one. I'm not sure I want to think about where/what I will be/doing ten years from now....not even mentioning where the heck I think this country will be 10 years from now. Sorry Carrie, I'm not going there
ReplyDeletethis was actually rob's entry. i think we need to figure out a way to log in as individuals as well as a wedded blogging duo. hmmm...
ReplyDeletei for one think that the challenge should be open to both idealistic and realistic interpretations.
amber and rob, i'm blaming you if i have nightmares about paul revere's webbed fingers. eek!

this is an exercise i will enjoy:
ReplyDelete10 years from now, i will be living in iowa city -- who else will watch little susan and the twins, curtis and declan, while carrie travels extensively as a special project consultant for the cdc? of course, rob,as head of the city's public works department, has unlimited vacation time, but chooses to spend his free time overseeing the development of his new online shopping corporation --the future's answer to e-bay. he also continues to restore their home in manville heights and it's adjacent pinball arcade. the aging oscar still has his spunky spirit and enjoys the company of cosmo, my cavalier king charles spaniel. dave and i have blown our lotto winnings and make ends meet by purchasing, rehabbing and flipping homes at a rate of one per month --a very lucrative occupation since the new nfl team, the iowa corndogs, has moved into town. we are not using our villa in italy as much as we'd like, but in another 10 years, the vineyard will start producing, and we'll have to live there full time. the whole family will need to pitch in,so an en masse move will allow the kids to study abroad and escape the mess that the green party has made of this country.
Now that's good stuff!

what's that last part about the green party messing things up? I didn't think it could get worse than things are now with the Grand Old Party...
