a first birthday party

on saturday eleanor went to her first birthday party held in honor of one of her baby friends. noa is the sweet one-year-old daughter of our friends matt and sarah. here's eleanor with the birthday girl playing with some girly things. they both wore gingham dresses and their party shoes.
last year when my office was in the library and adjacent to matt's, sarah would come by to visit often and we'd share pregnancy stories. jamie, a librarian, was also pregnant at the time and everyone suspected there was something in the water. here's jamie's baby, wythe, hanging out with e on the floor. it was amusing to watch the babies interact with each other. it mostly involved one baby taking away another's toy and then baby one taking it back again. good times!
sarah and rob keep an eye on the kiddies...

noa got to enjoy an important rite of passage for one-year-olds--her first taste of cake! we figured she was saving the frosting on her face and bib for later. shortly after this photo was taken, that cupcake was on the floor.

the party had a duck theme because noa loves the rubber ducky she gets to play with in the bath. her cake was topped with a line of little yellow ducks and each baby got to take one home as a party favor. think eleanor likes it?

beauties

our new dining room furniture arrived last friday! rob was home (nursing the sockets where his wisdom teeth used to be) to receive it. you know it's amish-made when eight bearded men in straw hats carry your table and chairs all the way from ohio. okay, so maybe they were delivered by truck and set up by some non-amish guys, but they're fine examples of caring old order craftsmanship nonetheless...
i took this photo on saturday and i'm somewhat sad to say that i had to move a bunch of non-dining-room stuff off the table--papers to be graded and other school flotsam, a toy or two or three--to stage it. we've never owned a full-fledged dining room table and we think this one's a beaut.

we think this one's a beaut, too...if you zoom in, you can see tooth #1...
catching some late-afternoon sunshine...
man, she is all over the place--crawling, standing, scooting, and pulling herself up on anything that will stand still and some things that won't (oscar). nine months is an amazing age!

Happy First Easter

This past weekend was Eleanor's first Easter which was very exciting. We shared a wonderful and delicious meal with Carrie's parents... Sue made a yummy ham and Eleanor got her first present from the Easter bunny.

It was a box of plush PEEPS!

Here is Mom helping her to open the Easter basket. She got a dolly, the peeps, a spring jacket, and a onesey. Sadly, no fake plastic grass.

Here she is in the act of dumping it on the floor.

Here we are as a family with the wee rabbit.

Sue shows off the golden ham!

Grandpa is always proud.

Apprehensive about her Easter outfit or simply saying "read me Jamberry already."

Eleanor's first batch of easter eggs. She did a good job.

Eleanor's first Cheerio experience (well organic Cheerio knockoffs but you get the idea.)

Almost got the Alphabet animals pulled out.

Someone now frequently stands up in the crib and "messes about."

Sporting the wonderful new sweater that Mom made along with her Easter hat.

Playing with her new Lamb dolly from Aunt Bobbie.

Sporting her "easter egg" hat that Amber made.

The cousins all together for their first picture in IC.

Eleanor loves the camera.

It was not a simple process as the final product might indicate.

Eleanor was excited to wear her Hawkeye high tops.

We went bowling early in March at Colonial Lanes... Mom smoked Dad in the first game.

Eleanor on Dad's birthday.

Carrie made me a delicious lemon birthday cake.

Oscar all dolled up from the Yuppy Puppy.

Dressed up in her jailbird/pirate outfit. The shirt says 'Lil Pirate.

These two are my real birthday present:
